MSQ Opportunity Quilt 2016

The Sierra County Arts Council awarded the Mountain Star Quilters an Art & Music Sponsorship for quilt instructors to teach classes in Downieville at the bi-annual MSQ Fall Colors Retreat. On October 7 & 8 four classes will be offered on both Friday and Saturday from 10:00 am-4:00 pm, by teachers Magaret Boothby, Sandra Bruce, Betsy Cammack, Dierdre Campbell, Kris Cook, Peggy Daigle and Heidi Emmet. Registration deadline is Sept. 1st.

Capping off the Retreat will be the annual Opportunity Quilt drawing on Saturday at 4:00 pm in the Downieville Community Hall. This year’s Opportunity Quilt, pictured here, is a Civil War era, queen-sized beauty, designed by Paula Barnes, with star blocks mounted on a deep blue background.

  • Californians will once again have the opportunity to support the California Arts Council and its arts programs for children through their state individual tax refund. Sept. 2013, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed Senate Bill 571 (Senator Carol Liu, La Canada Flintridge), returning the arts to the voluntary contribution portion of California tax return forms through the new "Keep Arts in Schools Fund." Donations are tax deductible and support Arts Council programs throughout the state.
