Cruisin’ back to the 1950s

Downieville School and the Sierra County Arts Council present the musical Hot Rod at the Yuba Theatre Friday, June 3, 2016 and Saturday, June 4, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

Book by Flip Kobler and Cindy Marcus, music and lyrics by Bill Francoeur. Produced by special arrangement with PIONEER DRAMA SERVICE, INC., Englewood, CO.

Tickets are $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for students and seniors, and will be available in May from Downieville High School Drama students and at the door.

Finally, here’s a boppin’ nifty fifties musical that steps away from the world of malt shops and sock hops!  Peggy Sue used to be the best of the street racers, but now her aspirations run toward college.  Trying to keep her old gearhead friends away from the new preppy crowd she hangs out with at the record store where she works is hard for Peggy Sue.  But that’s just the start of her troubles!  Her sister, Betty Lou, has followed in her footsteps as a street racer but ends up in a heap of trouble and only Peggy Sue can save her. This show has it all — a fresh story with a good moral.  Come join us for a fun filled show!

  • Californians will once again have the opportunity to support the California Arts Council and its arts programs for children through their state individual tax refund. Sept. 2013, Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. signed Senate Bill 571 (Senator Carol Liu, La Canada Flintridge), returning the arts to the voluntary contribution portion of California tax return forms through the new "Keep Arts in Schools Fund." Donations are tax deductible and support Arts Council programs throughout the state.
